Resilience refers to the ability of each person or social system to live well, develop positively despite facing difficult circumstances and as a result, transform and strengthen.
Resilience components
Resilience is made up of two elements:
- Integrity in the face of adversity (even under pressure, pain, death, and poverty).
- Ability to build or rebuild a normal life no matter how difficult the circumstances or situations they face.
What makes people resilient?
Resilience is due to internal factors such as high self-esteem, optimism, faith, self-confidence, initiative, and belief in the ability to choose and change your own thought process.
How is it developed?
Building resilience takes time. It is a process of discovering our own skills to deal with situations, our virtues, and internal strength. To achieve this you must:
- Recognize our weaknesses, fostering and expressing our talents.
- Appreciate oneself and be proud of the achievements achieved.
- Forgive your mistakes and accept them as learning experiences.
- Use your imagination/and express yourself creatively.
- Being able to appreciate relationships in such a way that they reflect a healthy relationship with ourselves.
Redesign your thinking about situations and relationships, not to reduce pain, but to foster the stamina needed to stay focused on achieving a full and productive life.
Some ideas for building resilience:
- Strengthen your self-esteem
- Have a sense of humor
