This can cause problems at work, school, and home. It can also lead to health issues and legal troubles.<\/p>\n<p>Using a substance does not always mean someone has a disorder. However, substance use often starts in the teenage years or early adulthood. Most people who develop a substance use disorder do so before age 27. This disorder is more common in men than in women.<\/p>\n<p>Many people with substance use disorders also have mental health conditions, such as depression or anxiety.
